Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis) Treatment

Eczema is a non-contagious, chronic inflammatory condition of the skin which is characterized by a red itchy, bumpy rash. The skin becomes dry and flaky and can also lead to thickening and hardening at the later stages.

Synonymously used with the term ‘dermatitis’ and ‘atopic dermatitis’. The word ‘atopy’ itself refers to genetic tendencies to develop other atopic diseases, such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, urticaria (hives), food allergies, hay fever, etc.

Eczema may be either acute or chronic. It may occur abruptly or gradually and may last for a few weeks or months or years.

It is commonly associated with increased immune responses to inhaled allergens or food allergens.

Homeopathic Treatment for Eczema

Homeopathy is the safest and more or less a permanent solution for skin allergies like eczema. It helps in relieving you from the irritation and swelling by aiming to treat the process of excess release of histamine, which is the main cause of the disease. It follows the holistic mind and body concept and aims to address the triggers within the body that leads to this disease.

Scope Of Improvement Using Homeopathy

Homeopathy has quite good scope in treating recently diagnosed cases of mild and moderate eczema. These cases usually require treatment for few months only.

Advanced cases and especially steroid-dependent cases of eczema (patients who have applied or consumed steroid medications for a long time) may need a few years of treatment for a sustained recovery. Dependency for steroid can be decrease during the course of treatment.

Recently-detected cases of eczema usually need a short course homeopathic treatment, whereas long-standing cases (chronic) need long-term treatment.

The treatment time varies from one person to person depending on their duration, age, constitution, and genetic background.

Homeopathic medicines are safe and do not have any side-effects, even after consuming for a long time.

Homeopathic Medicines for Eczema

There are multiple homeopathic remedies which act efficiently in treating varied cases of eczema. Homeopathic remedies, such as Sulphur, Natrum muriaticum, Silicea, and Thuja, are generally thought of for eczema. Other medicines, like Mezereum, Borax, and Kali Sulph, are recommended for eczema on the scalp. Graphites and nitric acid are exclusive medicines recommended for eczema on the hands and palms.

Causes:

  1. Genetic tendencies: Eczema often runs in families. One might be prone to have eczema if any one of the parents is having eczema or other allergic conditions, such as asthma, urticaria, specific food allergies, pollen allergies, etc.
  2. Physical factors: Frequent contact with harsh soaps and detergents, metals, such as nickel and copper, exposure to dyes, chemicals, and cosmetics like deodorants, bleach, and regular use of synthetic clothing are certain external causes which may trigger eczema.
  3. Environmental factors: Some seasonal allergies like pollen allergies and hay fever are at its peak from March to May. Individuals and children are likely to get eczema if they live in colder climates and in urban areas, where there is a high level of pollution.
  4. Drugs: Certain conventional medicines when taken for a long time may also trigger an eczematous reaction
  5. Altered immunity: Eczema develops as a result of an abnormal immune system response to certain external or internal factors.
  6. Stress: A prolonged stress can be a triggering factor for some individuals at some stage in their life.
