What is scars?

A growth of tissue marking the spot where skin has healed after an injury. It is an area of a fibrous tissue that replaces normal skin after injury. Scars result the process of wound repair in the skin, as well as organ and tissues of the body.

There are two types of scar:

  1. Hypertrophic scar – It occurs when the body overproduces collagen. It takes the form of red raised lump on the skin for light pigmentation and then forms the dark brown pigmentation. This scar usually occurs within 4 to 8 weeks after wound infection.
  2. Keloid – It is serious form of excessive scar, because they can grow in indefinitely into large, benign tumors neoplasm. The overgrow scar tissue can get large and may affect movement.
  3. Atrophic – It takes the form of sunken recess in the skin, which has a pitted appearance. It occurs when supporting structures like fat or muscle, are lost. It results as a scar of chickenpox, and some other diseases.
  4. Umbilical – Humans and other placental mammals have an umbilical scar. It is commonly also known as navel. It begins to heal when the umbilical cord is cut after birth.

Symptom

The symptoms of scar are:

  • Inflammation(swelling)
  • Dark skin
  • Redness
  • Sensitivity
  • Reduced range motion
  • “Creaky” sounds or sensation
