What is impetigo?

Impetigo is also called school sores. Impetigo is a highly contagious skin infection that causes red sores on the face especially around nose, mouth and on limbs.

Impetigo mainly affects infants and childrens. It is the bacterial infection which involves superficial skin.

In serious condition, infection invades into deep layer of skin and turns into form of impetigo known as ecthyma. In ecthyma blisters are pus filled with more thick and more dark often with more itch.

Symptoms

  • Reddish sore, often clusters around nose and mouth
  • Sore rupture or ooze for a few days, and then forms yellow-brown crust.
  • Red rash
  • Blisters
  • Itching
  • Skin lesion
  • Swollen lymph nodes

A symptom of impetigo usually appears 2 to 10 days after infection.
