Otitis media is the inflammation or infection located in the middle ear. An infection of the air filled space behind the eardrum.

Otitis media occurs as a result of cold, sore throat, or respiratory infection.  More than 80% childrens suffers from otitis media before 3 years of age. Otitis media may affect adults but basically the condition is more common in childrens.

Different types of otitis media are :

Acute otitis media : causes redness and swelling in middle ear. Fluid or mucus accumulates in the ear.

Otitis media with effusion : effusion and mucus is accumulated in the middle ear in the initial stage of infection.

Chronic otitis media : fluid return again and again in the middle ear or fluid remain in the ear for longer period.
